A modern classic, echoing the inviting feel of a Hamptons Beach house

The 50M / 164’ MOSAIQUE is a custom, full-displacement yacht built by Proteksan-Turquoise (now Turquoise Yachts) on their successful 50m/164’ series platform. Her design was entrusted to a British ‘dream team’: Ed Dubois for her exterior lines and naval architecture, and Don Starkey for her layout and interior. Although it has been entirely redecorated, Starkey’s original layout, structural cabinetry and boiserie remain.

At 589 GT, MOSAIQUE is extremely spacious for a 50m yacht, a feeling enhanced by her fresh palette of cream and neutral tones with subtle splashes of color. MOSAIQUE accommodates 12 guests in 6 staterooms including the full-beam master and a VIP on the main deck.

MOSAIQUE is ISM and MCA compliant for commercial use and has a successful charter record and completed her 20-year ABS classification surveys during a full refit in 2022. Equipped with Quantum zero speed stabilization, she has a 4,500 nm range at 14 knots and top speed of 15 knots.

The Story

“I always get a buzz out of making them look right.”

MOSAIQUE started as a speculative project with Dubois Naval Architects following the design of the earlier 50m (164ft) Turquoise. Compared to the original design, 0.5m (1ft 8in) was added to her beam. This gave MOSAIQUE a three-deck layout with spacious full-beam accommodations forward and generous companionways on both the main and upper decks.

A giant in the world of competitive sailing, in the 90s Ed Dubois tried his hand at superyacht design, including motor yachts. His approach never changed: “It’s vital to get the various ingredients of the design in the right proportion and balance with the right hull form, right construction for the purpose, right layout etc. It’s then vital to make any yacht look pretty. This is where the art side of design comes in – to marry beauty with technical excellence”.

Dubois’ MO is evident in MOSAIQUE’s graceful, streamlined exterior, raked bow for increased efficiency, spacious exterior decks and large windows in the guest areas and master suite. Even small details are given careful consideration to enhance the lifestyle experience. For instance, making sure you can see the horizon through the windows even when below deck, ensures that you stay connected to the sea.

The Brochure

The original brief called for a “country house atmosphere” with mahogany paneling and luxurious marble bathrooms with individually colored stone. Redecorated in soft cream and white tones, the comfort and elegance of Starkey’s layout has, if anything, been enhanced.

The GA

“I try to find out from the owner what really suits his style of living on the boat — how he spends his time, what his priorities are, and put the right boat around them”.
